Aslockton - St Thomas's Church, 2019 Plaque to Villagers Killed on Military Service

This memorial, funded by a Nottinghamshire County Coucil grant of £5,000, was unveiled by the Reverend Clare le Marchant-Connell at St. Thomas's Church, Aslockton on July 14th 2019. The oak plaque, engraved by Helen (TJ) Murfin of Ravenshead, is mounted in a prominent position within the church between two windows. Aslockton resident Tim Chamberlin, Chairman of the Western Front Association East Midlands Branch, led and researched the project to create the new plaque. Mr Chamberlin said 'I have always thought that it is much easier to remember people if you are able to see their names. It is a focal point and something for the children to see and carry on remembrance into another generation.' (Newark Advertiser 18/7/2019). The plaque lists eleven Aslockton Great War fatalities, three from World War Two and two lost since 1945.

Identified casualties 11 people
