Gringley on the Hill cemetery

Gringley on the Hill Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Gringley on the Hill, Nottinghamshire DN10 4QY. Memorial cross unveiled 20th November 1920 by the Duke of Portland and dedicated by Rev. S. Howard Hayward, vicar of Gringley on the Hill. Designed and constructed by Sharpe & Hoggard of Retford; cost £155. Description: Octagonal stepped base surmounted by octagonal plinth with cross above featuring carved 'sword of liberty'; Portland stone; inscription on plinth in black lettering, which reads: “Lest we forget. To the glorious and everlasting memory of the young men of this parish who gave their lives for their country in the Great War 1914- 1918 (names)” and “Also the World War 1939-1945 (names)."
