Wellow - St Swithin's Church - World War Two

Wellow’s memorial to the fallen of World War Two consists of a plaque placed inside St Swithin's church on the north wall of the nave, to the west of the porch. A wooden board immediately below the World War One memorial commenorates four local men killed between 1939 and 1945.

Local researchers have established that the plaque includes two errors. Frank Copeland was actually Frank Coupland and Robert Boaler Smith was incorrectly cited as John Oscroft Smith. (Wellow Heritage and Tourism Group, A tribute to our Wellow War Heroes, 2021).

The church also houses a board listing Wellow parishioners who served during the Second World War, most of whom returned.
