Edwin Smith was born in 1884 at Nottingham , he married his wife Eliza Terry (b 1883 Nottingham ) in 1908 at Nottingham, they lived at 5 Clyde Terrace, Russell Street, Nottingham Edwin is shown as being 27 yrs and a frame work knitter whilst Eliza is 28 yrs of age and a winder.
Private Edwin Smith enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 51489 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He died age 34 of wounds on 20th October 1918 and is buried in Harlebeke New British Cemetery (grave ref X.A.8)
All Saints Church News, January 1919: 'Edwin Smith, 5 Clyde Terrace, Machine Gun Corps, killed in action October 20th last [1918], aged 34. Had served two years in France and leaves a widow.'
