Sidney Thomas was born in 1895 in Lenton and was the son of Thomas Boaden a lace maker and Emily Boaden née Fry of 40 Cromwell Street, Nottingham His father was born in 1860 in Barnstaple Devon and his mother was born in 1859 also in Barnstaple, Devon, they were married in 1883 in Nottingham and went on to have 4 children , sadly 1 died in infancy , their surviving children were, Frederick b1886 Nottingham, Edith b1891 Nottingham and Sidney Thomas b1895 Lenton. In the 1911 census the family are living at 40 Cromwell Street, Nottingham and are shown as Thomas 51 yrs a lace maker he is living with his wife Emily 52 yrs and their son Sidney Thomas 16 yrs single and a labourer, spring maker. Also living in the house are three adult boarders.
Private Sidney Thomas Boaden enlisted on 27th January 1916 at Nottingham, he was 20 yrs and 10 months old, he lived at 40 Cromwell Street, Nottingham , he was a threader and his next of kin was his mother Emily Boaden of the same address. The following day he was posted to the reserves. He was mobilised on 1st March 1916 and posted the following day to the Durham Light Infantry . he was discharged from the army on 5th June 1917 being judged by a medical board as being no longer physically fit for service and discharged under Kings Regulations 392 XVII he was serving with the 8th battalion Labour Corps. He was issued with a silver badge number 211,610 . He saw no service overseas and died at home on 6th June 1917.

Attended All Saints Day and Sunday Schools and Band of Hope.' obituary published 6th July 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “BOADEN. – In loving memory of our dear son and brother, Pte. Sid Boaden, who died July 6th, 1917, aged 22.
