Thomas Stevenson was born in 1894 at Clifton and was the son of John a blacksmith and Lizzie Stevenson née Butler of 50 Village Street, Clifton Village, Nottingham. His father John was born in 1855 in Nottingham and his mother Lizzie Butler was born in 1871 in Clifton, they were married in 1890 in Nottingham and went on to have 5 children all of whom were born in Clifton, they were John Edward b1891, Thomas b1894, Frank b1895, Richard Ward b1899 and Hilda b1907. In the 1911 census the family are living in Clifton Village and are shown as John 56 yrs a blacksmith, he is living with his wife Lizzie 40 yrs and their children John Edward 20 yrs a blacksmith, Thomas 17 yrs a clerk in an iron foundry, Frank 16 yrs a farm worker, Richard Ward 12 yrs a scholar and Hilda 4 yrs

Military History

Corporal Thomas Stevenson enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 1st battalion Grenadier Guards, he landed in France on 9th Decemebr 1915 and was killed in action on 31st July 1917, he is buried in Duhallow A.D.S Cemetery grave reference 8.C.8
