Family History

Arthur Wright was born in 1899 at Leeds, he was the son of Thomas a prison warder at HMP Nottingham and Sarah Emma Wright née Moore of 39 St Albans Street, Sherwood, Nottingham. Thomas was born in 1875, Sarah Emma Moore was born in 1876 both were born in Leeds, they were married on 15th August 1896 at St Mary’s Church, New Wortley, Yorkshire, they had 2 children, George born 1898 and Arthur born 1899 both born at Leeds. In the 1911 census the family were living at 39 St Albans Street, Sherwood, Thomas 36 yrs is a prison warder at HMP Nottingham he is living with his wife Emma 35 yrs and their sons George 13 yrs and Arthur 12 yrs of age.

Military History

Private Arthur Wright enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Sherwood, he initially served with the service number 300060 in the Army Service Corps, later transferring to the 10th battalion Essex Regiment, he was killed in action on 8th August 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial, France.
