David Vincent was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son of John a brick makers labourer and Emily Vincent née Dickinson of 2 Adams Place, Oak Street, Carrington. John Vincent was born in 1876 at Sherwood, Emily Dickinson was born in 1875 at Bagthrope, Nottingham, they were married in 1894 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had 8 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family were living at 2 Adams Place, Oak Street, Carrington, John Vincet 35 yrs is a brick makers labourer at the local brickyard, he is living with his wife Emily 36 yrs a lace mender, they are living with their children, Emma 15 yrs a lace mender, David 14 yrs an errand boy, Mable 12 yrs, Sarah Ann 10 yrs, Mary Lavinia 6 yrs, Ethel Maud 3 yrs and Florence Frances 2 yrs of age. David married Annie Gutheridge (born 11th March 1896) on 13th August 1916, she later lived at 42 Barclay Street, Sunderland, Commencing 30th April 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.
Private David Vincent enlisted on 19th August 1914 at Nottingham giving his age as 17 yrs and 343 days, he was a lace factory hand. He landed in France on 15th August 1916 he was killed in action on 9th October 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
