William Henry Tugby was born in 1890 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Henry Edgar Tugby a tailors porter and Mary Ann Tugby née White of 5 Burgass Place, Carrington, Nottingham. Henry Edgar Tugby was born in 1866 at Whitwick, Leicestershire, he died in 1904 at Nottingham aged 38 yrs, Mary Ann White was born in 1867 at Ironville, Derbyshire, they were married in 1888 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had 6 children. In the 1911 census his widowed mother Mary Ann Tugby is 44 yrs, a widow and a laundress, she is living with her children, William Henry 21 yrs a joiner, Gertrude Mary 19 yrs a machinist, Alfred 14 yrs a warper in the lace trade and Doris 7 yrs they are living at 5 Burgass Place, Carrington. William Henry married Harriett Eaton in 1911 at Nottingham, they had a child, his wife later lived at Dunnville,, Ontario, Canada;

He died from influenza and is buried in Charleroi Communal Cemetery (grave ref P.3).

Nottingham Post notice (abridged), 3 January 1919: 'Tugby. On December 19th at Charleroi, France, died of influenza, Private WH Tugby, Labour Coy, husband of Harriett Tugby. Wife and child. Eldest son of Mrs Tugby, Burgass Place, Carrington, and the brother of the late Cpl A Tugby who died of wounds, May 1st 1917. Mother, family.'
