Family History

William Ernest Tuckwood was born in 1886 at Nottingham, he was the son of George a stationary engine driver and the late Eliza Ann Tuckwood née Swift of 12 Spring Terrace, Selkirk Street, Carrington. George was born in 1842 Eliza Ann Swift was born in 1845 both were born in Nottingham, Eliza died in 1904 she was 48 yrs of age. They were married on 25th December 1866 and went on to have 4 children. In the 1911 census the family are living at 4 Spring Terrace, Carrington, Nottingham, George is 69 yrs of age,he is a stockman and is living with his son William Ernest 25 yrs single and a labourer.

Military History

Private William Tuckwood enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Carrington he served with the st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he went to France on 27th December 1914 and was killed in action, on 11th March 1915 during the Battle of Neuve Chapelle, France.Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, France. Panel 26 and 27.
