Family History

Albert Anthony Truman was born in 1878 at Nottingham he was the son of the late Mark Truman a lace maker and the late Emily Ann Truman née Booth of 2 Adams Place, Nottingham. Mark was born in 1840 at Nuthall he died in 1908 aged 68 yrs, Emily Ann Booth was born in 1851 at Carrington, she died in 1887 aged 34 yrs, they were married on 25th December 1874 at St Leodegarius, Church, Basford, they went on to have 4 children, Albert married Elizabeth Annie Cawthan in 1906 at Nottingham, she died in 1912 aged 36 yrs. In the 1911 census Albert Anthony Truman is living at 3 Campbell Grove, Nottingham, he is 33 yrs and a lace maker, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 36 yrs and his mother in law Elizabeth Cawthan 67 yrs a widow.

Military History

Albert Truman enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Carrington, he served with the10th battalion Sherwood Foresters, he went to France 14th July 1915 and was killed in action, 14th February 1916, during heavy German shelling and the explosion of a German mine prior to a German attack of the front line trenches near to the canal to the South East of Ypres, Belgium. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium. Panel 39 and 41.
