Samuel Sanday (junior) was born in 1884 at Carrington he was the son of Samuel Sanday (senior) a gas work labourer and the late Emma Elizabeth Dewey Sanday née Eason of 1 Wesley Grove, Carrington. His father Samuel Sanday (senior) was born in 1853 at Carrington, Emma Elizabeth Dewey Eason was born in 1853 at Plungar, she died in 1915aged 62 yrs they were married in 1874 at Nottingham and went on to have 9 children. Samuel Sanday (junior) married his wife Grace Louisa Bromley (born 30th October 1881 at Paddock Wood, Kent) ) they were married in 1909 at Croydon, they had 2 children, Frederick Samuel born 8th October 1910 and Molly born 23rd April 1912. In the 1911 census Samuel Sanday (junior) is living at 13 James Street, Grimsby he is 27 yrs and a police constable he is living with his wife Grace Louisa and their son Frederick Samuel 5 months old. Commencing 12th July 1915 he widow was awarded a pension of 19 shillings and 6 pence a week.

Military History

Sergeant Samuel Sanday enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion Grenadier Guards, landing in France on 6th October 1914. He was killed in action on 26th October 1914 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Memorial, Belgium.
