Family History

Ernest Harold Roach was born in 1896 at Canterbury, Kent he was the son of Quarter Master Henry Thomas Roach a territorial army pensioner and Isabella Roach née Reeves of 150 Hucknall Road, Carrington. Henry Thomas Roach was born in 1861 in London, Isabella Reeves was born in 1865 at Chertsey, Surrey, they were married on 19th April 1888 at St Peters Church, Farnborogh and went on to have 10 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family were living at 26 Park Row, Nottingham, Henry Thomas 50 yrs is an army pensioner, he is living with his wife Isabella 41 yrs and their children, Nellie Isabel 20 yrs no occupation listed, William 17 yrs an errand boy, Ernest Harold 15 yrs a printers labourer, Millicent Ivy 10 yrs a scholar and Thomas 9 yrs of age.

Military History

Private Ernest Harold Roach enlisted at Derby whilst residing at Nottingham, he served with the 1/6th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 15th September 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thievpal Memorial
