Family History

John Henry Rayner (junior) was born in 1890 at Carrington, he was the son of John Henry Rayner (senior) a house painter and Hannah Elizabeth Rayner née King of 499 Mansfield Road, Sherwood. John Henry Rayner (senior) was born in 1866 at Spalding, Lincolnshire, Hannah Elizabeth King was born in 1869 at Nottingham, they were married on 26th December 1887 at the Radford Parish Church, Radford, they went on to have 11 children, sadly 2 were to die in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family are living at 499 Mansfield Road, Sherwood Nottingham, John Henry (senior is 45 yrs and is a house painter, he is living with his wife Hannah 42 yrs and 8 of their children including John Henry (junior) 21 yrs a house painter.

Military History

Private John Henry Rayner enlisted at Derby he served with the 6th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he died of wounds on 16th April 1917 and is buried at Warlincourt Halt British Cemetery, Saulty, France.
