Albert Henry Onion was born in 1894 at Nottingham he was the son of Albert Grant Onion a groundsman and Elizabeth Alice Onion née Tooms of 30 Church Drive, Carrington. Albert Grant was born in 1872 at Nottingham, Alice Elizabeth Tooms was born in 1874 at Nottingham, they were married on 21st May 1893 at Nottingham, they had 6 children. In the 1911 census the family are living at 30 Church Drive, Carrington, Albert 39 yrs is a groundsman, he is living with his wife Alice 37 yrs and their children, Albert Henry 17 yrs a boot repairer, Emma 15 yrs a lace finisher, Bertie 14 yrs an errand boy, Norman 12 yrs a schoolboy, Nora 6 yrs and Lois 3 yrs of age.

Military History

Lance Corporal Albert Henry Onion enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Carrington, he served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he died of wounds on 25th April 1918 and is buried in : Crouy British Cemetery, Crouy-Sur-Somme, France. Plot I. Row A, Grave 14.
