Family History

Edgar Mayfield was born in 1882 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late George an iron turner and Mary Mayfield née Blyton of 70 Hamilton Street, Grimsby. George was born in 1845, Mary Blyton was also born in 1845, they were both born in Newark, they were married in 1864 at Newark, they had 5 children. Edgar married Nellie Twigger (born 4th November 1880) in 1903 at Nottingham, they lived at 18 Babworth Street, Carrington, they had the following children, Edgar born 4th October 1904, George Herbert born 27th April 1906, John born 22nd August 1908 and Gladys born 9th April 1914. In the 1911 census his family are living at 70 Hamilton St Grimsby, George is 66 yrs an out of work iron turner, he is living with his wife Mary 66 yrs and their daughter in law Nellie Mayfield. 27 yrs. Commencing 18th June 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 28 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Lance Corporal Edgar Mayfield enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 16th battalion Cheshire Regiment, he died of wounds at Kings Norton, Worcester hospital, he is buried at St Johns Churchyard at Carrington, Nottingham.
