Family History

Henry Gardener Jalland known as Harry was born in 1895 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Albert Joseph Jalland a lace draughtsman and Ann Jalland née Morley of 41 Crossman Street, Radford. Albert Joseph Jalland was born in 1870 at Nottingham, he died in 1915 aged 45 yrs, Ann Morley was born in 1872 at Leighton Buzzard, they were married in 1894 at Nottingham, they had 3 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood, In the 1911 census the family is living at 41 Crossman Street, Radford, Ann 39 yrs is living with her two children, Henry 15 yrs an office boy and Lillian Alice Clarice 13 yrs a scholar. In the same 1911 census we find his father 41 yrs of age resident at the Nottingham Lunatic Asylum, Mapperey.

Military History

Lance Corporal Harry Gardener Jalland enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 9th battalion King’s Royal Rifle Corps, he was killed in action on 15th September 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial (Pier and Face 13 A and 13 B)
