Family History

Percy Alfred Husbands was born in 1889 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Alfred Husbands a clerk and Louisa Husbands née Hancock of Manning Street, Nottingham. Alfred Husbands was born in 1866 at Calais, France he died in 1898 aged 32 yrs, they were married on 23rd April 1886 at St Ann’s Nottingham, they had a further child, Beatrice Louisa b1887 died 1905. Following the death of his father Alfred his mother re married in 1899 at Nottingham, to Albert Edward Hollyoak, who already had two children. In the 1911 census the family are living at 6 Manning Street, Nottingham, Albert Edward Hollyoak is 47 yrs and is a corporation gas fitter, he is living with his wife Louisa Hollyoak 44 yrs and his step son Percy Husbands 21 yrs a paint mixer and his two children, William Henry Hollyoak 20 yrs a grocers porter and Harriett Hollyoak 18 yrs a lace hand. Percy Alfred married Eliza Hodgkinson (born 7th August 1892) on 16th November 1912 at St Ann’s Nottingham, they lived at 75 Wollaton Road, Beeston and had a daughter Irene May born 30th April 1913. Commencing 28th October 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military History

Private Percy Alfred Husbands enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Beeston, he served with the 2/6th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he died of wounds on 16th April 1918 , he is buried at Haringhe (Bandaghem) MIlitary Cemetery 1.E.18
