Family History

Howard Hitchcock was baptised James Howard Hitchcock on 5th July 1896 at Heanor, he was the son of James a chemist and Annie Hitchcock née Holmes of 21 Welbeck Road, Carrington, Nottingham. James was born in 1851 at Langford, Budville Somerset, Annie Holmes was born in 1859 at Alfreton, they were married in 1879 at Chesterfield, they went on to have 8 children. In the 1911 census the family were living at Victoria Road, Nottingham, James 60 yrs is a chemist, he is living with his wife Annie 52 yrs and 3 of their children, Harriett 20 yrs helping in the home, Howard 14 yrs a scholar and Lewis 10 years of age.

Military History

Private Howard Hitchcock enlisted at Fulham, Middlesex, he served with the1st battalion Northampton Regiment. He was killed in action on 5th January 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, France.
