Family History

Arthur Harold Dawson was born in 1880 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Arthur Alfred Dawson a lace manufacturer and Harriet Eleanor Dawson née Pearson of Warwick Road, Mapperley, Arthur Alfred was born in 1855 at Lenton, he died in 1908 he was 53 yrs old, Harriett Eleanor Pearson was born in 1853 at Nottingham, they were married in 1878 at Nottingham they had 6 children. In the 1911 census Arthur Harold is living with his widowed grandmother Sarah Dawson at 11 Park Valley, Nottingham, his grandmother Sarah Dawson is 91 yrs, also at the address is Arthurs brother Leonard Leslie 19 yrs a clerk, Arthur Harold 31 yrs is a lace factory manager, also at the address are 2 servants.

Military History

Gunner Arthur Harold Dawson attested on 9th December 1915 at Nottingham, giving his address as 33 Watcombe Circus, Carrington, he gave his age as 36 yrs and 6 months, he was unemployed and his next of kin was his mother Harriett Eleanor Dawson of Warwick Street, Mapperley, he was posted to the reserves. He was mobilised for war on 25th March 1916 and posted as a gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery. He embarked from Southampton on 30th August 1916 and landed at Le Harve the following day. He was admitted to the 7th Canadian Hospital on 25th March 1917 with an acute diffuse carbuncle on his next, he developed septicaemia and died on 2nd April 1917 he is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery.
