Family History

Ernest Lambert Cookson was born in 1887 at Nottingham and was the son of Thomas, a fitter, and Harriett Ann Cookson née Lambert. His father Thomas was born in 1861 at Ilkeston and his mother Harriett Ann was born in 1866 at Bennington, Lincolnshire. They were married on 29th November 1886 at Nottingham. They went on to have a further son Charles b1893 at Nottingham. Harriet Ann Lambert died in 1898 aged 32 yrs at Nottingham. In the 1901 census Ernest's family is at 362 St Ann’s Well Road, Nottingham. His father is shown as being 45 yrs, a widower and working as a fitter, living with his sons Ernest Lambert 13 yrs a scholar and Charles 8 yrs as lodgers in the household of Isaac Wood 58 yrs, a shop keeper and his wife Mary 59 yrs. Ernest went on to marry his wife Clara Wootton b1886 at Nottingham, at Nottingham in 1905. They went on to have three children: Ernest Lambert b1906, May b1910 and Rosa Clara b1911; all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census Ernest Lambert Cookson is living at 558 Mansfield Road, Nottingham. He is shown as being 23 yrs, a stone mason, who is living with his wife Clara 25 yrs and their children Ernest Lambert 5 yrs, May 1 yr and Rosa Clara 3 months of age.

Military History

Ernest Lambert Cookson enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Sherwood. He served with D Battery, 82nd Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. He landed in France on 20th September 1915. He died on 22nd April 1918 at Great Northern Hospital, Holloway Road, London, and is buried at St John’s Churchyard Carrington.
