Family History

Thomas Brown was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Harry Brown a lace maker and Mary Ann Brown née Fisher of 10 Wesley Grove, Carrington, Nottingham. Harry Brown was born in 1865 at Chesterfield he died in 1909 aged 44 yrs, Mary Ann Fisher was born in 1866 at West Deeping, Lincolnshire, they were married on 10th May 1890 at St Mathias Church, Sneinton, they went on to have 10 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family were living at 9 Market Square, Carrington, his widowed mother Mary Ann is 45 yrs she is living with her 10 children including Thomas 14 yrs a card threader.

Military History

Private Thomas Brown enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/5th battalion King’s Royal Rifle Corps, he was killed in action on 12th December 1916 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
