Family History

Alfred Blanksby was baptised on 13th October 1897 at St John’s Church, Carrington, he was the son of Edward a lace maker and Sarah Ann Blanksby née Richardson of 1 Toronto Terrace, Church Drive, Carrington. Edward was born in 1861 at Carrinton, Sarah Ann Richardson was born in 1860 at Basford, they were married on 3rd August 1884 at St John’s Church, Carrington, they had 5 children, sadly 2 were to die in infancy or early childhood, Alfred’s siblings were, Jane b1885, Florence Ada b1886, Emma b1888 and Lily b1891. In the 1911 census the family were living at 12 Morley Street, Carrington, Edward 50 yrs is a lace maker, he is living with his wife Sarah 51 yrs and their children, Jane 26 yrs and Alfred 14 yrs a boy clerk.

Military History

Private Alfred Blanksby enlisted at Nottingham on 28th September 1914 giving his age as 19 years and 12 days although he was actually only 18. He landed in France on 26th March 1915 and died on 27th July 1915, age 18, whilst serving in the line at Sanctuary Wood, Belgium. Buried : Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 3. Row A. Grave 9. 33 days later.
