Family History

John Edmund Bishop was baptised on 4th October 1891 at St Margarets Church Brighton he was the son of Arthur Stanley a solicitor and Emily Kate Bishop née Woodhouse. His father Arthur Stanley was born in 1861 at Sandhurst Berkshire, his mother Emily Kate Woodhouse was born in 1866 at Montreal, Canada, they were married on 3r September 1890 at Parliament Street, Chapel, Nottingham, they had 4 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family ae living at 22 Prestonville Terrace, Brighton, Arthur Stanley 50 yrs is a solicitor, he is living with his wife Emily Kate 45 yrs and their children John Edmund 19 yrs a student, Nellie Emily 15 yrs and Rose Alice 2 yrs of age.

Military History

Captain John Edmund Bishop served with the East Lancashire Regiment, he died between between 18th/19th April 1916 his name is commemorated on the Basra Memorial, Iraq.
