William Charles Ellis

William Charles Ellis was born in 1884 at Nottingham and was the son of Thomas Peveril Ellis a machinist and Clara Ellis née Watson of 51 Sneinton Road, Nottingham His father Thomas Peveril Ellis was born in 1856 in Nottingham and his mother Clara Watson was born in 1856 at Nottingham, they were married in 1881 at Nottingham and went on to have 9 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood, their children were William Charles b1884, Arthur b1886, Thomas Peveril b1888, Clara Alice b1890, Alice Eliza b1892, Harriett Maud b1895, Ada Maud b1897 and Albert George b1899, all were born in Nottingham except Albert George who was born in Durham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 51 Sneinton Road, Nottingham and are shown as Thomas Peveril Ellis 55 yrs a machinist, he is living with his wife Clara 55 yrs and their children, William Charles 26 yrs a foundry hand, Arthur 25 yrs a railway gas fitter, Thomas Peveril 23 yrs a machine hand, Clara Alice 20 yrs lace jenner, Alice Eliza 19 yrs a lace finisher, Harriett Maud 16 yrs a lace finisher, Ada Maud 14 yrs an errand girl and Albert George 12 yrs a scholar. William Charles Ellis married Maria Parr born 6th July 1887 in 1913 at Nottingham, they lived at 185 Carlton Hill, Carlton, they went on to have a daughter Edna May born 6th March 1914. Following his death his widow Maria was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 23rd April 1917. the caption on his photograph states Pte W C Ellis of 51 Sneinton Rd, Nottingham
