Family History

Ernest Allen was born in 1887 He was the son of John an engineman and Harriett Allen and the brother of Harry, Samuel and Walter Allen. In 1901 and 1911 they lived at 44 Upper Eldon Street Nottingham. Ernest married Hannah Eliza Hanslow (born 3rd October 1881 ) in Nottingham in 1911 they lived at 4 Thurmans Yard, Lower Eldon Street, Sneinton they had the following children, Thomas Henry born 19th May 1911, John Albert born 18th July 1914 and Lilian Catherine born 2nd April 1917 . Commencing 10th June 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 29 shillings and 7 pence a week.

Military History

Private Ernst Allen enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 30473 in the Royal Norfolk Regiment. He was killed in action on 9th October 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial Panel 28 to 30, 162 to 162 A & 163A
