Bertie Straw was the son of Samuel and Annie Straw of 7 Byfield Street, Radford, Nottingham.

Military History

Gunner Bertie Straw enlisted on 2nd September 1914 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 19 yrs and his occupation as that of a grocer, his next of kin was his father Samuel of 7 Byfield Street, Radford. He was posted to the Royal Field Artillery. He embarked from Southampton on 12th May 1915 and disembarked the following day at Le Harve. He was killed in action whilst serving with B battery, 52nd brigade Royal Field Artillery. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate memorial, Belgium panel 5 & 9
