Family History

Arthur Nutty was born in 1885 in Nottingham and was the son of of Henry Harwood a levers lace maker and his wife the late Catherine Maria Nutty née Orsband of 96a Norton Street, Radford. His father Henry Harwood Nutty was born in 1845 in Nottingham, his mother Catherine Maria Orsband was born in 1843 she died in 1902 aged 59 yrs , they were married in 1862 at Nottingham, they went on to have 16 children, sadly 7 died in infancy or early childhood, their children were, Mary Ann b1864, John William b1865, Alice b1869, Catherine Maria b1872, Martha b1873, Henry b1876, Frederick b1877, Annie b1879, In the 1911 census the family are living at 96a Norton Street, Radford and are shown as Henry Harwood Nutty 66 yrs a levers lace maker, he is living with his children, Martha 37 yrs a house keeper, Arthur 26 yrs a presser and Ernest 24 yrs a leaf hand in a tobacco factory.

Military History

Private Arthur Nutty enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/7th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action on 15th September 1916. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
