Sidney was the son of George and Elizabeth Pinder of The Crown Hotel Wells-next-the-Sea Norfolk. He was the brother of George born in 1893, Arthur (killed serving with the RFC 1/7/1917) born 1894, Georgina (born 1886) and Frances Mary (born 1888). In the 1911 the family lived at Lidgett House in Edwinstowe.
