George William Coupe was born in 1899 the son of William a railway platelayer for the Great Central Railway and Edith Coupe née Hewitt of 19 East Lane, Edwinstowe. William was born in 1874 at Edwinstowe and Edith Hewitt was born in 1875 also at Edwinstowe, they were married in 1891 their marriage was recorded in the Southwell registration area, they went on to have a daughter Beatrice Ada born 1903 at Edwinstowe. In 1911 the family are living at East Lane Edwinstowe and are shown as William Coupe a railway platelayer, he is living with his wife Edith and their children, George William a scholar and Beatrice Ada a scholar.

Military History

Driver George William Coupe enlisted at Retford whilst residing at Edwinstowe, he initially served with the service number 39014 with the Leicestershire Regiment, he was serving with the Army Service Corps when he died on 5th November 1918 in Palestine and is buried at Ramleh War Cemetery, Israel. EE.10
