William Henry Smith was born in 1878 at Rotherham, he married Kate Beatrice Goldsmith (born 1874 Thetford) in 1900 their marriage was recorded in the Romford registration district, they went on to have the following children, Doris Annie b1901 Loughborough, Phyllis Crane b1909 Nottingham and Joyce Murial born 1910 Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family were living at 23 Kingsley Road, Sneinton, Nottingham and are shown as William Henry Smith 33 yrs an assistant teacher, he is living with his wife Kate Beatrice 37 yrs and their children, Doris Annie 10 yrs a scholar, Phyllis Crane 2 yrs and Joyce Murial 6 months old.

Military History

Quarter Master Sergeant William Henry Smith enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at old Basford, he served with the 931st Motor Company, Arm Service Corps he died of wounds on 10th June 1917 and is buried at Achiet le Grand Communal Cemetery Extension
