Arthur Clark was born in 1896 he was the son of Mary Emma Clark who married William Baldwin in Radcliffe on Trent in 1899 they lived at Railway Cottage, Radcliffe-on-Trent. In 1911 the family are living at Bingham Road, Radcliffe on Trent, William Baldwin is 35 yrs a platelayer wit the Great Northern Railway, he is living with his wife Mary Emma 35 yrs, her son Arthur Clark is 14 yrs of age and a brick and pot maker (he is shown as being a stepson) and Charles Baldwin 4 yrs, Fred Baldwin 2 yrs and John Baldwin 1 year old.

Military History

Private Arthur Clarke enlisted on 24th August 1914 at Nottingham giving his age as 17 years and 348 days old, he was a railway porter, Posted to the 3rd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He died on 2nd August 1915, aged 19, at West Hall Whitburn Sunderland of natural causes (heart failure) Buried : Boldon (Whitburn) Cemetery, Durham, United Kingdom. Plot U. Row C. Grave 365 He saw no service overseas.
