Family History

Harold Joseph Wright was born in 1888 at Nottingham and was the son of Joseph a house and estate agent and Mary Wright née Barnett of 1 Herbert Road, Nottingham. His father Joseph was born in 1854 at Nottingham, his mother Mary Barnett was born in 1853 in Dover, they were married on 15th June 1880 at Nottingham, they went on to have 7 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. Their surviving children were Edgar Alfred b1881, Frank Douglas b1883, Florence Mary b1884, Ethel Charlotte b1887, Harold Joseph b1888, Arthur Edward b1890 and Reginald b1896 all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 1 Herbert Road, Nottingham and are shown as Joseph 57 yrs a house and estate agent, he is living with his wife Mary 57 yrs and their children, Ethel Charlotte 24 yrs no occupation listed, Harold Joseph 23 yrs an estate agents clerk, Reginald Percy 14 yrs a scholar. Harold Joseph married his wife Jessie Elizabeth Slater in 1915 at Bridlington, they lived at Fairholm, Haywood Road, Mapperley. Following his death his widow Jessie was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 25th May 1918.

Military History

Private Harold Joseph Wrignt enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Mapperley, he initially served with the service number C/1391 in the Royal Scots Fusiliers. He was serving with the 9th battalion Highland Light Infantry when he died of wounds on 6th September 1917 at 36th casualty clearing station. He is buried at Zuydcoote Military Cemetery grave reference 1.C.16
