Samuel Albert Straker was born in 1899 at Basford and was the son of Albert Edward a corporation worker and Ellen Straker née Parr of 102 Nottingham Road, Basford, Nottingham. His father Albert Edward was born in 1877 at Hull, his mother Ellen Parr was born in 1876 at Nottingham, they were married in 1897 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had a further son Arthur born 1905 at Hull. In the 1911 the family were living at 1 Newcombe Street, Hull and were shown as Albert Edward Straker 34 yrs a corporation worker, he is living with his wife Ellen 35 yrs and their children Samuel Albert 11 yrs a scholar and Artur 6 yrs. the family are living with his widowed grandmother Ann Parr 66 yrs.

Military History

Private Samuel Albert Straker enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 6th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 15th April 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial
