Family History

Frederick Stevenson was born in 1884 in Nottingham and was the son of Fred Lever Stevenson an asphalter and the late Kate Stevenson née Brown of 5 Raven Terrace Basford. His father Fred was born in 1855 at Basford and his mother Kate was born in 1860 in Nottingham, they were married in 1877 in Nottingham and went on to have the following children , all born in Nottingham, Alice b1883, Fred 1884, Minnie b1887, Jessie b1890 and Nathaniel b1894. His mother Catherine died in 1908 in Nottingham she was 49 yrs of age. In the 1911 census his father Fred 56 yrs an asphalter is living a lone at 5 Raven Terrace

Military History

Driver Frederick Stevenson enlisted on 19th March 1906 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 20 yrs his address as 5 Raven Terrace, Elson Street, Basford, Nottingham, his next of kin was his father Fred of the same address. He stated he had been in the 4th battalion Sherwood Foresters prior to enlistment. He was posted to the Royal Field Artillery and was mobilised for war on 5th August 1914 and posted to the 30th Brigade, he was joined the British Expeditionary Force in 1914. He suffered from bouts of bronchitis during his time in France culminating in his return to England on 18th March 1917 suffering from the effects of TB . He died in the military hospital at Fort Pott, Chatham of pulmonary TB on the 5th March 1918 . He was buried at Nottingham (New Basford) Cemetery H.7.25

Extra Information

His brother Nathaniel Stevenson enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 2nd battalion Grenadier Guards, he landed in France on 24th May 1915 , he survived the war.
