Arthur Stevenson was born in 1899 at Basford and was the son of the late Henry a lace maker and Maria Stevenson née White of 9 East Grove, Basford. His father Henry was born in 1861 at Wilford and his mother Maria White was born in 1863 at Carrington, they were married in 1891 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham Registration Strict, they went on to have three children, all of whom were born in Basford, they were Ethel b1894, Percy b1897 and Arthur b1899. In the 1911 census the family are living at 9 East Grove, Basford and are shown as Henry 50 yrs a lace maker, he is living with his wife Maria 48 yrs and their children, Ethel 17 yrs a cigar maker, Percy 14 yrs a grocers errand boy and Arthur 12 yrs a scholar.
Arthur Stevenson served in the 1st battalion Lincolnshire. According to the Soldiers' Effects Register he died in Tipperary Military Hospital on 13th July 1919 by committing suicide at Tipperary. His body was returned to his family and he was buried at New Basford Cemetery.
