Family History

Ernest Hector Rose was born in 1896 at Nottingham and was the son of James Sidney a painter and decorator and Rosada Rose née Holmes of 3 Palm Street, New Basford, Nottingham. His father James Sydney was born in 1871 at Grimsby, his mother Rosada Rose néé Holmes was born in 1873 at Branston, Yorkshire, they were married in 1893 their marriage was recorded in the Sheffield Registration district, they had 12 children, sadly six were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were , Harold b1895 Doncaster, Ernest b1896 Nottingham, Albert b1902 Doncaster, Clara b1904 Doncaster, Christina b1909 Nottingham and Ethel b1910 Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family lived at 1 Vernon Place Carrington and were shown as James Sydney 40 yrs a painter and decorator he is living with his wife Rosada 38 yrs and their children, Albert 9 yrs a scholar, Ernest 15 yrs a bottle labeler, Clara 7 yrs a scholar, Christina 2 yrs of age, Ethel 1 year of age and Harold 16 yrs a coal assistant.

Military History

Private Ernest Hector Rose enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at New Basford, he served wit the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 16th October 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
