Family History

Alfred Glover was born in 1890 the son of Thomas a lace curtain designer and Eliza Jane Glover née Worledge. His parents were both born in 1863 at Basford. Married in 1886, they had seven children - Thomas b1888, Alfred b1890, Daisy b1892, Mildred b1894, Ellen b1897, Bertram b1900 and Hector b1902. All were born in Basford. On the 1911 census the family lived at 42 Sandon Street, Basford. Alfred was a levers lace maker, Daisy 19 a lace drawer, Mildred an office worker, Ellen a blouse maker whilst Bertram and Hector were at school. Alfred married Lucy Winson on 22nd May 1915 at St Leodegarius Church, Old Basford, Nottingham. They lived at 45, Nottingham Street, Nottingham and had a son Thomas Alfred born on 24th December 1915 at Bulwell. With effect from 30th April 1917, Lucy was awarded a weekly pension of 18/9d In 1921, Lucy married Ernest Sallis in Nottingham where they lived at Sycamore Lodge, 78, Beech Avenue, Sherwood Rise.

Military History

Alfred Glover, attested on 7th December 1915 at Nottingham. He was posted to the reserves and mobilised on 10th April 1916. He landed in France 16th July 1916. He was killed during the attack on the Schwaben Redoubt on 9th October 1916. He is buried in Bray Vale British Cemetery, Bray-sur-Somme, France. Grave Reference: 4.C.8.
