George Dutton was born in 1894 at New Basford and was the son of William James a hosiery hand and Mary Ann Dutton née Salisbury of 18, Shipstone Rd., Hyson Green, Nottingham. His father William James was born in 1869 at Old Basford, and his mother Mary Ann Salisbury was also born in 1869 at New Basford, they were married in 1889 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they went on to have 7 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were , Lilly b1890, George b1894, Kate b1903 and William James b1910 all were born in New Basford. In the 1911 census the family are living at 1 Peake Terrace, Palm Street, Basford and are shown as William James 42 yrs a hosiery hand, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 42 yrs and their children Lilley 21 yrs a lace curtain mender, George 17 yrs a cardboard box maker, Kate 8 yrs a scholar and William James 5 months of age
Private George Dutton enlisted at Nottingham and initially served with service number 30457 in the 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment . He later transferred to the (116488) 195th Coy Labour Corps. He died of wounds on 31st October 1917 and is buried in Bedford House Cemetery, Belgium , grave reference enclosure 2, III B 13

Ever in our thoughts. – Sorrowing mother, father, sisters, brothers. “DUTTON. – In loving memory of our dear nephew and cousin, Pte. George Dutton, who died of wounds October 31st, 1917. Memory, like ivy, clings. – From Mr. and Mrs. Perrons and family. “DUTTON. – In loving memory of Pte.
