Percy Ball was born in 1899 at Nottingham and was the son of Richard Stainforth Ball a brick layer and Annie Ball née Lowe of 38 Whitbread Street, New Basford, Nottingham. His father Richard Stainforth was born in 1875 at Bulwell, his mother Annie Lowe was born in 1874 at Basford, they were married in 1898 at Nottingham, they went on to have the following children, Percy b1889 Nottingham, Clarice born 1901 Nottingham, George b1905 Nottingham, Clara b1907 Beeston, Phyllis b1909 Beeston and Maggie b1911 Mansfield. In the 1911 census the family are living at 4 Jennison Street, Mansfield and are shown as Richard 36 yrs a brick layer he is living with his wife Annie 37 yrs and their children, Percy 12 yrs a scholar, Clarice 10 yrs a scholar, Clara 4 yrs, Phyllis 2 yrs and Maggie 1 month old.

Military History

Private Percy Ball enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2/8th battalion Worcestershire Regiment. He was killed in action on 1st November 1918 and is buried at buried in Valenciennes (St Roch) Communal Cemetery 3.D.13
