Edward died the following year aged one. By 1911 Richard (38) and Grace (35) were living at the Railway Gate House, Holme, near Southwell. They now had four sons: John (13), George (8), Arthur (5) and Frank (2). The family was still living in Holme in 1911 and Richard was still working as a plate layer. Only five of their children were in the home on the night of the census: George (19) a railway porter, Frank (12). Victoria (10), Ethel (8) and Elsie (6). At the time of the same census Arthur (17) was working as a cowman at Clayworth, East Retford, on the farm of William|Hiley and his wife Annie. The CWGC record gives Richard and Grace's address as The Crossing, Winthorpe, Newark. Richard died in Holme on 19 January 1931 aged 68 and was buried in St Giles' churchyard, Holme. Grace died on 8 February 1943; she was then living with her eldest son, John William, at 73 Main Street, Rawmarsh, Yorkshire, although in 1939 she was recorded living with her youngest daughter, Elsie Edna (Gelsthorpe) in Newark. Of Arthur's siblings: John William was living in Ravenfield, Rotherham, in 1911 and was a farm waggoner on the farm of Grasby Prudon and his wife Sarah. He married Ellen Coles (b. 2 October 1889) on 26 December 1913 at Thryburgh, their address was then 20 St John Road, Eastwood View, Rotherham. John attested in the York & Lancaster Regiment on 10 December 1915 (service number 44626). He was then 28 years old and working as a miner. John was transferred to the Army Reserve the same day (10 December) and was not mobilized until May 1918, serving in France with the 2nd Battalion from September 1918. He was demobilized at Clipstone Camp on 7 February 1919 and discharged to 20 Abell Stret, Winmey Hill, Rotherham. In 1939 at the time of the England & Wales Register, John was working as a coal merchant (master). He and Ellen were living at 73 Main Street, Rawmarsh, West Riding. They were still living in the area when Ellen died in about 1951 (J/F/M Rother Valley) but by the time of John's death on 3 February 1980 he was living at 66 Appletongate, Newark, Notts. George married Esther Emma Emmons (b. 12 March 1892) in 1916 (J/A/S Newark) and in 1939 they were living at 59 Cumberland Avenue, Doncaster, where George was working as a railway shunter. They were still living at the same address when George died on 29 October the same year at the Royal Infirmary Doncaster. Frank attested at the age of 18 (about 1916) and was assigned to the 8th Bn Notts & Derby (Sherwood Foresters). Only the cover page of his Army Service Record survives and this gives the additional information that he was born in Winthorpe, Newark, and was a farm servant in the employ of R Clayton at Collingham where he proibably 'lived in'. There is a record of the deathof a Frank Dean, b. abt. 1899 in 1964 (A/M/J Don Valley West Riding). Victoria M. has not yet been traced after 1911.
