Family History

Herbert Frederick Russell was born in 1899 at Market Rasen and was the only son of Herbert Denham a tin and copper smith and Carey Russell née Melton of 141 Rolleston Drive, Lenton, Nottingham. His father Herbert Denham was born in 1875 at Snaith, Yorkshire, his mother Carey Melton was born in 1875 at Market Rasen, they were married on 19th October 1898 at Market Rasen. In the 1911 census the family are living at 59 Lord Nelson Street, Sneinton, Nottingham, Herbert Denham is 36 yrs and is a tin and copper smith, living with his wife Carey 37 yrs and their son Herbert Frederick 12 yrs of age.

Military History

Private Herbert Frederick Russell enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 3rd October 1918 and is buried at Bellicourt British Cemetery, France.
