Family History

Albert Edward Mills was born in 1883 at Walesby and was the son of Daniel a general labourer and Eliza Mills née Searson of Walesby village. His father Daniel was born in 1837 at Walesby, his mother Eliza Searson was born in 1844 at Boughton, they were married in 1865 their marriage was recorded in the Southwell Registration district, they went on to have 9 children, sadly three of whom died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Fanny b1866, Daniel b1867, Mary b1870, Annie 1872, George b1874 Sarah Ann b1881 and Albert Edward b1883, their ist four children were born in Boughton and their remaining were born at Walesby. Albert Edward married Emily Maud Ellen Mills, née Morley (born 15th June 1885 Cardiff) on 20th August 1905 at St Lukes Church, Holloway they lived at 16, Westcroft Square, Hammersmith, London and went on to have the following children, Alwyn Charles born 7th August 1906, Vera born 28th April 1908, Dorothy Florence b21st April 1909, Cyril born 10th May 1911 and Kathleen born 28th March 1914. In the 1911 census Albert and his family are living at 4 Midmoor Road, Balham, London and are shown as Albert Mills 28 yrs a furniture salesman, he is living with his wife Maud 25 yrs and their children Alwyn 4 yrs, Vera 2 yrs and Dorothy 1 year of age. In the same 1911 census his parents are living at Walesby village and are shown as Daniel Mills 74 yrs a general labourer he is living with his wife Eliza 67 yrs of age. Following his death his widow Emily Maud was awarded a pension of 37 shillings and 11 pence a week which commenced on 9th December 1918.

Military History

Gunner Albert Edward Mills enlisted at West London whilst residing at Hammersmith, he served with the 120th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. He was killed in action on 21st March 1918 and he is buried at Noyon New British Cemetery, Oise, France.
