He was the son of James and Ellen Porter and the brother of Herbert and Violetta Porter. In 1911 they lived at 19 Preston Street Lenton Nottingham. He was the husband of Florence Porter (née Allen) of 52 Willoughby Street New Lenton Nottingham. he was the father of Florence K Porter.
He died of wounds and is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France (grave ref 8.A.187)
Nottingham Evening Post notice (abridged) 17 March 1917: 'Porter. Died of wounds March 12th, Private A Porter, Sherwood Foresters. Wife (née Allen) and family.'
