Albert Fisher was born in 1881 in Radford and was the son of William, a lace maker, and Ann Fisher née Stead of 24 Gutherie Street, Radford. His father William was born in 1846 in Nottingham and his mother Ann Stead was born in 1845 in Radford. They were married in 1874 in Radford and went on to have the following children; Samuel b1875, Flora b1878, Albert b1881, William Edgar b1885 and Sarah b1890, all the children were born in Radford. His father William died in 1906 in Nottingham; he was 60 yrs old. In the 1911 census his family are living at 24 Gutherie Street, Radford and are shown as Ann 66 yrs a widow charwoman, who is living with her children Flora 33 yrs a lace clipper and Sarah Elizabeth 21 yrs a blouse hand. Albert had married Emma Ward on 26th September 1905 at Lenton Parish Church. They went on to have a daughter Alice May born 9th February 1915 in Lenton. They lived at 34 Warwick Street, Old Lenton and later at 8 Graham Street, Radford Boulevard, Nottingham. In the 1911 census Albert and his wife are living at 3 Ebury Terrace, Commercial Street, Lenton. He is shown as being 30 yrs and a carter and Emma is 29 yrs and a cotton worker. Following his death his widow received a letter from the Ministry of Pensions dated 11th October 1917 informing her she was to receive a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week in relation to her and one child with effect from 22nd October 1917.
Private Albert Fisher attested on 7th December 1915 at Nottingham. He gave his age as 35 yrs and 169 days, his address as 34 Warwick Street, Old Lenton, Nottingham, and his occupation as that of a bakers vanman. His next of kin was his wife Emma of the same address. He was posted to the Reserves the following day and eventually mobilised for war on 16th June 1916 and posted on 22nd June 1916 to the 11 battalion North Staffordshire Regiment. On 18th October 1916 he was transferred to the 3rd battalion King’s Own (Royal Lancaster Regiment). He embarked Devonport on 4th November 1916 and disembarked at Salonika on 16th November 1916. He joined his unit in the field on 25th November 1916. He died of wounds received in action - a shell wound to right leg and gas gangrene - at the 31st Casualty Clearing Station on 13th April 1917. He is buried in Sarigol Military Cemetery, Kriston, Greece (grave reference B.219).
