Arthur James Cheetham was born in 1898 at Dunkirk, he was the son of Arthur a general labourer and Naomi Elizabeth Cheetham née Flowers and the brother of Frank, George Aveling, William Henry and Ernest Laurie Cheetham. of Dunkirk, Nottingham.
His father Arthur was born in 1875 at Old Lenton, his mother Naomi Elizabeth Flowers was born in 1870 at Ramsey, Huntingdon, they were married on 5th December 1897 at Lenton Priory Church, they had 5 children.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 39 Claude Street Old Lenton Nottingham Arthur 36 yrs is a general labourer he is living with his wife Naomi Elizabeth 40yrs and their children, Arthur James 13 yrs a scholar, Frank 11 yrs a scholar, George Aveling 8 yrs of age, William Henry 6 yrs of age and Ernest Laurie 4 yrs of age.
Lance Corporal Arthur James Cheetham, attested on 27th March 1915 at Nottimngham, giving his address as 39 Claude Street, Dunkkirk, Nottingham, he was 19 yrs and 1 month old, he was a cycle factory hand, he was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. he transferred to the Machine Gun Corps on 13th August 1916, he embarked from Folkstone on 13th August 1916 landing at Boulogne the same day. He was reported missing on 27th May 1918 and was confirmed on 10th September 1918 as a prisoner of war in Germany. He died on 5th November 1918 of cardiac paralysis in Quedlinburg Camp Hospital. he is buried at Niederzwehren Cemetery, Hessen, Germany 8.J.17
