Arthur Stapleton was born in 1899 at Nottingham and was the son of Charles a corporation gas worker and Ada Stapleton née Ball of 6, Ward St., Hyson Green, Nottingham. His father Charles was born in 1869 as was his mother Ada Ball both were born in Nottingham, they were married in 1893 at Nottingham, they had a further son Joseph Arnold born in 1895 also in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 6 Ward Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham and are shown as Charles Stapleton 42 yrs a corporation gas worker, he is living with his wife Ada 42 yrs and their sons, Joseph Arnold 16 yrs a bobbin finisher and Arthur 12 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private Arthur Stapleton enlisted at Nottingham, he served with B Company, 10th battalion Lancashire Fusiliers. He was killed in action on 30th June 1918 and is buried at Toutencourt Communal Cemetery, France.
