Frederick Reeves was born in 1896 in Basford and was the son of Frederick John Alvers Reeves, a gas work labourer, and Sarah Reeves née Wallis of 19 Shipstone Street, Basford, Nottingham. His father known as 'Alvers' was born in 1855 in Breaston, Derbyshire, and his mother Sarah Wallis was born in 1857 in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. They were married in 1875 in Nottingham and went on to have seven children, sadly two were to die in infancy. Their surviving children were: Lizzie b1881 Breaston, Arthur b1883 Breaston, George b1887 Breaston, Fanny b1892 Basford and Frederick b1896 Basford. In the 1911 census the family are living at 19 Shipstone Street, Basford, Nottingham, and are shown as Alver 56 yrs a gas work labourer, who is living with his wife Sarah and their children, Lizzie 30 yrs a hosiery machinist, George 24 yrs a hosiery trimmer, Fanny 19 yrs a blouse machinist and Frederick 15 yrs a hosiery trimmer.

Military History

Private Frederick Reeves served with 53rd Protection Company, Royal Defence Corps. He died on 27th November 1918 and is buried in Basford Cemetery, Nottingham.
