Arthur Parkin (junior) was born in 1894 he was the son of Arthur Parkin (senior) a basket hamper maker and Mary Ann Parkin née Haywood and the brother of Catherine, John William, Sarah Shaw, Frank, Maud and Leslie Parkin. Artur Parkin (senior) was born in 1868 at Sutton on Trent, Mary Ann Haywood was born in 1865 at South Collingham, they were married on 6th December 1894 at All Saints Church, Sutton on Trent, they had 7 children In 1911 they lived at 63 Fisher Street Mosley Street New Basford Nottingham Arthur is 43 yrs and a hamper maker, he is living with his wife Mary 46 yrs and their 7 children including Arthur 17 yrs a hosiery sorter.

Military History

Driver Arthur Parkin, 34th Divisional Ammunition Column, Royal Field Artillery, died of wounds on 27th March 1917. He is buried in Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension.

Obituaries published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 27th March 1918:- PARKIN. – In ever loving memory of Arthur (R.F.A.), the beloved son of Arthur and Mary Parkin, 63, Fisher-street, died of wounds March 27th, 1917. Dearest son and brother, you have left us, and thy loss we deeply feel, but the God that has bereft us, He will all our sorrows heal. But again we hope to meet you, when the days of life are fled, and in heaven with joy to greet you, where no farewell tears are shed. On his soul sweet Jesus, have mercy, R.I.P. - Deeply grieved for by mother, dad, brothers Jack, Frank (France), Leslie, sisters Kote [?], Sallie, Maud, and brother-in-law Percy, sister-in-law Annie, and nieces. “PARKIN. – In loving memory of Driver A.
