Family History

Percy George was born in 1889 in Nottingham and was the son of John a grounder in the leather trade and Ann Selina Loader, née Hawtin of 203, Bobbers Mill Rd., Hyson Green, Nottingham.His father John was born in 1849 in Godalming, Surrey and his mother Ann Selina Hawtin was born in 1852 in Oxford, they were married in 1885 in Nottingham and went on to have 5 child, all of whom were born in Nottingham, they were :- John William b1886, Leonard b1888, Percy George b1889, Annie Maud b1892 and Lawrence Carr b 1897. In the 1911 census the family are living at 215 Bobbersmill Road, Hyson Green, Nottingham and are shown as John 62 yrs head of the family, a gounder in the leather trade, he is living with his wife Ann Selina 59 yrs and their five children , John William 25 yrs working in the tobacco trade, Leonard 23 yrs a polisher in the leather trade, Percy George 22 yrs a polisher in the leather trade, Annie Maud 19 yrs and Lawrence Carr 14 yrs a shop assistant.

Military History

Private Percy George Loader, enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 4th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 1st March 1915. Having no known grave, he is commemorated on the Menin Gate.

Following are obituaries published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 1st March 1916 and 1917 :-“LOADER. – In loving memory of Pte. P. G. Loader, 4th Royal Fusiliers, killed in action March 1st, 1915, at Ypres. Nobly he did his duty. – From mother, brothers, and sisters.” “LOADER. – In loving memory of Percy Loader, killed in action March 1st, 1915.
